Practical info for visiting Kosovo
Short answers for border and visa, money, SIM cards, safety, driving and weather, written for first-time guests.
Border and visa
Many nationalities enter Kosovo visa-free for short stays. Check your passport validity and the rules for your nationality before you travel. Entry stamps and land-border queues vary by crossing.
If you arrive by air, Prishtina airport is the usual gateway. Keep your booking confirmation and passport details handy at the border.
Money and euros
Kosovo uses the euro. Cards work in cities and many mountain businesses; cash is still useful for small shops, taxis and remote villages. ATMs are easy to find in Prishtina, Prizren and Peja.
Prices on Përjeto are in euros. Tip modestly where service is not included.
SIM cards
Local prepaid SIMs are sold at the airport and in city kiosks. Coverage is strong in towns and along main roads; mountain valleys can be patchy.

Safety
Kosovo is generally calm for visitors. Use normal travel sense: lock cars, watch belongings in crowds, and follow local advice in the mountains.
Emergency numbers and your host WhatsApp are on your booking pass. Share your itinerary when hiking alone.
Driving
Roads between main cities are fine. Mountain roads can be narrow, icy in winter and busy on weekends. An International Driving Permit may help if your licence is not in Latin script.
Winter tyres matter for Brezovica and Rugova. Book transfers if you prefer not to drive mountain passes at night.
Weather and seasons
Summers are warm in the cities and cooler in the mountains. Winters bring snow to Sharr and the Accursed Mountains. Always check the forecast on listing and destination pages before outdoor plans.
Ski season peaks mid-winter in Brezovica. Lakes and gorge walks in Rugova shine from late spring through early autumn.
